Abstract

Acoustic waveforms recorded in the borehole show promise of providing excellent geologic information. For some time, relationships between rock type and waveform response have been recognized. Those relationships, although not yet fully defined, can be exploited by using the speed and memory capabilities of the computer to associate certain waveform shapes with specific geologic features.
