Abstract

Oil and gas sands containing clays should be conditioned to provide the proper state of hydration of clays prior to the determination of porosity, permeability, and other rock properties in the core anal- ysis laboratory. The last few molecular layers of adsorbed water should be retained as well as the (OH)- clay lattice water.
