Abstract

Any number of numerical correlation schemes exist to process dipmeter data to yield results. These results represent solutions to a particular mathematical model having esoteric GEOLOGIC significance. For the case of a three well structural problem plotted on a stereonet, the intersections of the apparent dip traces represent all possible true dip solutions. The SHIVA process applies an identical geological reasoning to resolve numerous apparent dips in the Earth’s frame of reference. The routine resolves the pad response point locations with respect to true north and the horizontal plane. Hence, a vector joining similar features on two pad traces constitutes an apparent dip along a line of section connecting the response points.
