Abstract
The Waxman-Smits method of calculating water saturations from electric logs of shaly sands and the need for cation exchange capacity data have bll een we established in the literature. However, the use of the method has been inhibited for two re- 1i the Waxman-Smits equation is difficult to handle without computers; and 2) it is nor- mally expensive and time consuming to obtain cation exchange capacity data.
