Abstract

Pulsed neutron capture logs have been very useful for estimating saline water saturation, particularly in cased formations. Gamma rays from neutron capture reactions are detected following each burst of neutrons emitted by a 14 MeV neutron generator. The rate of change in the number of capture gamma rays is directly related to the capture cross section (1) of elements in the vicinity of the logging tool.
