Abstract

An essential part of the evaluation of any carbonate reservoir is a pore size distribution study of the rock making up the reservoir. This can best be carried out from measurements of the capillary properties of the carbonate, which in turn can be obtained in sufficiently large numbers on a routine basis by the mercury injection method. When studied in conjunction with lithology, mercury injection curves reveal the manner in which changes in rock type affect the hydrocarbon accumulation. This provides a means to relate the reservoir development with its geological history.
