Formation Evaluation in Low Porosity Carbonates and Fractured Reservoirs April 1996 Porosity and Hydrocarbon Typing Using Magnetic Resonance Logs Author: Chris Molaro, NUMAR Corporation, Calgary, Alberta Efforts to quantify both porosity and hydrocarbon types are the focus of most formation evaluation problems in carbonates. Pore size dimensions are often unknown when evaluating carbonates. The fluid content of the pore system is generally inferred from resistivity logs. Nuclear magnetic resonance makes direct measurements of pore volume, pore size distribution and fluid types.
