Abstract

Monopole and dipole shear sonic logs were obtained in an exploration well in the South China Sea. While much of the footage had shear slowness outside the range of application of the monopole (greater than fluid slowness), a number of sand zones had a shear slowness of 120 to 140 p.sec/ft. In these zones, the dipole shear slowness was generally faster than that from the monopole by 5 to 10 percent.
