Abstract

In March 1968 the American Association of Petroleum Geologists initiated a project to study geothermal gradients and collect data on this subject for the North American continent. The objective of this 4- to 5- year effort is to determine the regional distribution of the geo- thermal gradientover North America, including the Continent- al Shelf. The survey findings will be presented in the form of geothermal-gradient or geoisotherm maps on the scale of 1:5,000,000. In the fall of 1971 the Canadian Well Logging Society undertook to collect the data for the Canadian por- tion of the project, and data are presently being collected from federal agencies, universities, provincial agencies, and the mining and oil, industries.
