Abstract

A number of well logging methods are being used by the oil industry to detect and evaluate abnormally pressured formations. Abnormal pressure zones – and as much prior knowledge of them as is possible – are critical to con- ducting efficient drilling operations. Well logs can be used effectively to determine pressure and temperature profiles. Such information is necessary for selecting correct mud weights and casing points if wells are to be drilled and completed safely and economically.
