Abstract

The Seal area is located approximately 300km NW of Edmonton, Alberta. The Mississippian Elkton (Lower Debolt) Member and Shunda Formation produce gas from a medium porosity (10-25PU) zone. These zones contain bitumen which may occupy up to 75 percent of available pore space. Conventional log interpretation cannot quantify separate gas and bitumen saturations for the purpose of calculating gas reserves. Consequently these wells are cored to measure bitumen saturations in order to calculate gas saturations and reserves.
