Abstract

INTRODUCTION Log evaluation in complex lithologies is a problem where four or more minerals and clays exist in the matrix. There are simply too many unknowns for stand- ard log interpretation programs to resolve. What is required are measurements that can delineate the radioactive clay minerals (Illite, Kaolinite, Smectite, Chlorite, Micas, Glauconite and Feldspars) from the key matrix minerals (Calcite, Quartz, Dolo- mite, Anhydrite, and Salt).
