Abstract

Wells drilled directional from a few platforms into a hydrocarbon bearing structure encounter the same stratigraphic horizons at different apparent depths, and see the same formations with different apparent thicknesses. The task of correlating logs from well to well, essential in mapping of the structure and the evaluation of its reserves, already a difficult one because of lateral facies and thickness variations, becomes even more difficult with the added geometric distortions due to hole deviation and bed dip.
