Saturation determinations in fresh water complex shaly sands using conventional interpretation techniques historically have been complicated by two main issues: Complex mineralogy, which may include kaolinite, illite, smectite, feldspars, quartz, calcite, dolomite, pyrite, and siderite, makes it difficult to determine an accurate porosity.
