Abstract

The Devonian shale formations of the Appalachian, Illinois, and Michigan Basins are being studied by the Morgantown Energy Technology Center (U.S. Department of Energy) and industry under the Eastern Gas Shales Project in order to accelerate the exploitation of the natural gas contained in the shales. Total gas resource estimates for the Appalachian basin alone range up to 2400 TCFG.
