Abstract

Clay present in the pore space of a sandstone requires consideration in well log analysis. The clay physically occupies pore space and hinders distinction between effective porosity and total porosity; the clay also contributes to the measured electrical signal. Without compensation for these influences a potentially hydrocarbon-bearing rock may well be masked by the effect of clay.
