Abstract

Estimating water saturation in fractured carbonates is extremely difficult, if not impossible, in some situations. Banff carbonates in the Westerose Area of Central Alberta are so severely fractured that resistivity is lowered so as to resemble a ‘wet’ water leg in these zones of fracturing. These zones of low contrast pay which can be confused with water can be awkward in estimating reserves and even positioning production perforations.
