Abstract

The Sonar Caliper is used to measure the profiles of storage caverns and large diameter boreholes. Sound pulses are sent out from a transmitter and the time is noted for the sound to travel to the cavern or borehole wall and back to the transmitter. The principle is similar to that of radar but using sound waves instead of radio waves.
