Abstract

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements of spin-lattice relaxation times (TI) are directly related to the amount of fluid present in the rock and to the geometry of the enclosing solid. In the past ten years, various researchers have proposed relationships between the NMR response of a core sample and its porosity, permeability, FFI, or pore sizes. However, theoretically and in practice, the geometry of the pore space (the shape, size and connectivity) has a dominant effect on the measured Tt; this effect has not been fully accounted for.
