Abstract

The dielectric constant of sandstone cores has been found to be a means of quantifying the electrical effects of shaliness. For rocks less than 100% water saturated, the dielectric constant varies approximately as the water saturation. From this desaturation information a shaly sand model can be derived for rock conductivity as a function of water saturation.
