Course: Cement Log Evaluation – In High Angle to Horizontal Wells Date: March 11-12, 2019 8:30am – 4:30pm Instructor: Gary Batcheller

Course Description

This 2-Day Cement Log Evaluation workshop will illustrate the application of cement logs for cement evaluation, which is essential to successful completions and meeting AER requirements. Actual log examples including SAGD and horizontal wells are utilized to illustrate different type of logs and allow a comparison for log quality and evaluation of interpretation techniques. There will be exercises of making squeeze or no squeeze decisions and discussion of influences from drilling and mud removal techniques. Included are practical guide lines for successfully evaluating cement integrity and isolation.

Course: Introduction to Log Analysis Date: March 6-8, 2019 8:30am – 4:30pm Instructor: Gary Batcheller

Course Description

This practical 3-day Introduction to Log Analysis workshop will illustrate log responses to rocks and their fluids. Once these simple relationships (common throughout the world) are understood, you can recognize permeability, hydrocarbons and identify rock and fluid types easily.

The session will also include illustrated techniques for recognizing log validity. Participants are encouraged to bring their own logs to complement existing real-life case studies.

New subjects now covered in “Introduction to Log Analysis”:

The Introduction to Log Analysis course has now been updated to include an introduction to the evaluation of rocks with organically rich materials and with extremely low permeability. These potential reservoirs are sometimes referred to as a resource rock or “shales”. This section includes a discussion of geochemical logs and information from cores/log for Total Organic Carbon (TOC).

Since the success of fracture treatments are a significant part of the overall production for these reservoirs a section has been included on introduction to rock mechanics for both vertical and horizontal wells. In addition, current completion techniques for fracturing horizontal wells will be discussed.
