Application deadline: March 10, 2008
The Lakeview Resource Play team as part of the Clearwater Business Unit (BU) has an opening for a Petrophysicist. We are searching for an organized, innovative, results-oriented individual to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop deeper CBM and gas shale resources. The current focus play is moving from evaluation into the early development, with full development expected in 2010. Given the aggressive growth plans, greater assurance around reservoir characterization is required. With the team, you will be accountable for identifying and evaluating development opportunities. Our team’s mandate is to grow production at a scale that is material to EnCana. This is an exciting position for an individual who wants to be involved in the early stages of large scale development.
Duties and Responsibilities
- integrate log, petrologic and special core data to provide complete reservoir characterization of coals, sands and disposal zones
- recommend and implement emerging logging technologies; special core analysis, for example, relative perm for coals, coal sensitivity to mud systems
- partner with geologists, geophysicists and engineers to characterize reservoirs for simulation and reserves volumetrics
- provide input into drilling, coring and evaluation programs to maximize petrophysicial interpretation
- other activities includes data mining of core, dst, fluid and production data, statistical analyses, integrating petrographic, hydrogeologic and stress data sets, integrating data into geo-cellular, visualization and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
- seismic petrophysics
- identify and calibrate step changes in coal petrophysical techniques – e.g. perm, cost effectiveness
- act as a technical resource for geological staff for running software and developing efficient workflows
- be willing to learn and explore new ideas and concepts that could be integrated into workflows
- encourage collection and sharing of best practices across the team and company

- strong digital data handling skills and proficiency with a comprehensive petrophysical analysis software suite is required
- familiarity with workflows that effectively integrate and upscale modeled petrophysical and other well data with seismic volumes into static geocellular reservoir realizations is a key asset
- exposure to methods to fully integrate rock, log and test data to completely understand reservoir performance is an asset
- proven reservoir and production/operations engineering knowledge, sound judgment, analytical ability and good business sense
- well developed communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi disciplinary team
